Bolt is a three piece band from Duisburg, Germany. ”(04)” which was released on November 10th, 2017 is the band’s latest full length. Recorded and mixed by Andreas Brinke and mastered at Toppershouse by Tobias Stieler, this album includes three songs.

It kinda took me forever to put together this review but i’d like to think it’s better late than never. Describing their music, Bolt say that they create waving sounds and crushing riffs. I personally agree with this description of theirs. Drone blends with black metal to create something which is really dark, cold and esoteric. Wait till the sun has set, put on your headphones and give this album a spin. In my opinion this is layered music. The more you find out the more fascinating it gets. Bolt’s music won’t reveal all of its secrets that easily to you but it is definitely worth trying. I’d like to perceive this album as one big track composed of three tracks. Nevertheless, i’ll admit my favourite track from this album is ”[ 18 ]”. The band recently released a ‘Remix EP‘ where you can find two remixes of ”[ 18 ]”.

Back in the early 00’s i was really into black metal and i was also listening to artists like MZ 412 and Raison d’ Etre. I’m still into black metal. Listening to ‘( 04 )’ i kept asking myself ‘Is this the merge of these two different styles?’. I personally think it’s close to that. Or maybe it isn’t. One thing’s for sure though. This is a dope album and i urge you all to give it a listen. Check out this link.

Album review: Nuvo – Laiks ir asinīs

Nuvo is a two piece band from Valmiera, Latvia. Formed in 2012, they released their debut album ”Laiks ir asinīs” (that’s latvian for ”Time is in the Blood”) back in May 7, 2018. Recorded in Hodila records (Latvia,Valmiera) by Lomix, this album includes nine tracks.

So let’s check it out. Let’s give this album a spin. The album’s intro is really nice. It actually made me quite eager to find out what lies within. Nuvo’s music is a mixture of hardcore, melodic death metal and post metal. The band consists of a bass player and a drummer. One might ask, does this work? The answer is of course it does. This duo from Latvia has managed to create something quite dark and really heavy. In my opinion this album holds a certain degree of charm. Even though it’s instrumental it tells a story of its own. A lot of dope songs can be found inside this album. I’m talking about tracks like ”Time is in the Blood”, ”Castles are Crumbling” and ”Help to get up”. Big ups also on the album’s production.

In my opinion, this album incorporates all the elements that make it a must listen. It sounds fresh as it sounds inspired and it is definitely recommended. Here is a link where you can listen to ”Laiks ir asinīs”

Album review: Yatra – Death Ritual

Yatra is a three piece band from the U.S. Their debut, full length album ”Death Ritual” came out on the 4th of January through Grimoire Records. Recorded, mixed and mastered in August of 2018 by Noel Mueller, this album includes eight tracks.

Yatra plays doom metal similar to the likes of Sleep, Goatsnake and Ufomammut. ”Death Ritual” starts off with ”Hour of the Dragon” which is a dope track no doubt. Same goes for ”Black Moon”. Listening to these two tracks i was like ”o.k guys you’ve now got my full attention ”. ”Sacred Flower” is an awesome song. The Sabbath spirit is strong in this one. ”Snakes in the Temple” is a track that i simply can’t get enough of. ”Smoke is rising” is the track that comes next and i would really like to listen to this track live. I would surely like to listen live to all of this album’s songs. This album comes to an end with ”Mighty Arrows” and ”Sailing On” and all i can say is that this was quite a ride.

I’m down with all of the album’s songs. If i had to choose a favourite one though that would had to be either ”Black Moon” or ”Sacred Flower”. To sum it up, ”Death Ritual” by Yatra is definitely an album worth checking out. I personally enjoyed it, therefore i’d like to recommend it. Here’s a link where you can listen to ”Death Ritual”.

Album review: Great Falls – A Sense of Rest

Hi everyone! Happy new year to you all! This is my first review for 2019. We start off with an album that came out in December. I’m talking of course about ”A Sense of Rest” by Great Falls. This is the band’s third full length album.

To be honest i haven’t heard their previous albums but this one was highly recommended so i thought i should check it out. Released on the 21st of December via Corpse Flower Records, this album includes eight tracks. So let’s check it out. Let’s see what we’ve got here.

First track is called ”The Accelerationist”. It’s an awesome track and that’s hands down. I found myself trying to think what it reminds me of and the answer i came up with is that there’s no clear answer. Listening to their music some bands may come to mind but i personally feel that this band has an identity of its own. ”Not-For-Sale Bodies” is the song that comes next. It’s considerably heavy and i think you’ll love it like i did. I found ”Kettle Logic’s” chaotic nature to be quite appealing. I’m always down with this kind of songs. Same goes of course for ”We Speak in Lowercase”, namely the album’s fourth track. I wasn’t ready for a track like that but i sure as hell dig it. It’s actually my favourite one from this album. ”Thousands Every Hour” and ”Baldessari Height” are two kick-ass songs with ”Baldessari Height” being exceptionally cold and heavy. This album comes to an end with ”Scratched off the Canvas”. What a way to end an album this is. It’s a great song and you need to give it a listen. Don’t skip any songs. Listen to this album from the beginning till the end.

In my opinion Great Falls put out a great album. It’s an album that needs to be played loud. I enjoyed it a lot therefore i would like to recommend it. Check out this link and show this band some love.
